Zarina hashmi google doodle celebrates indian american artist zarina hashmis 86th birthday:
Zarina Hashmi, an Indian-American artist and printmaker who created minimalist and abstract art, is the subject of today's Google doodle. Zarina, who used only her first name as an artist, was born on July 16, 1937 in Aligarh, India. She had a background in mathematics and was fascinated by geometry and architecture, which influenced her artistic vision.
Zarina's art expressed the themes of home, displacement, borders, travel, and memory, reflecting her personal experiences of living in different countries and cultures. She accompanied her husband, a diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service, to various places such as Bangkok, Paris, Bonn, Tokyo, and New York. She also visited her family in Pakistan after they relocated there following the partition of India in 1947.
Zarina learned woodblock printing in Bangkok and Tokyo, and intaglio with Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris. She also experimented with papermaking and sculpture, using materials such as paper pulp, metal, wood, and thread. She often incorporated text and symbols from Urdu, Arabic, and Persian languages into her works, creating a visual language that transcended boundaries.
